Traveling, whether across town or halfway around the world, can be a daunting task for someone in a wheelchair.
In order to make the flying experience less difficult, the North Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Association, WakeMed Rehabilitation, and RDU Airport have collaborated to present “Wheels Up: Navigating the Airport and Airplane by Wheelchair”, on Tuesday, April 25th, 10AM to Noon, at RDU Airport, Terminal 2, in the Heritage Room.
Attendees will learn about all of the intricacies of navigating the airport in a wheelchair. A panel of seasoned travelers will share their insights and experiences.
Individuals who use wheelchairs and their families/caregivers are welcome. To register, email your contact information to or call 919-350-5240. Please specify if you are planning to participate in the TSA screening.
This information was provided to us by Patrick Lockamy at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Rehabilitation Service. He tells us that there are efforts being made to bring a program such as this to the Wilmington International Airport.
Thanks, Patrick, for the “heads up.”
